Our American Right: Freedom to Speak Responsibly

Boycott That Business!

Earlier this month, many set out to cut the throat and open up a  financial hemorrhage on the Goya company and it’s president, Bob Unanue.  The executive’s remarks, “We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump…” struck a vein in democratic politicians, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Julian Castro.  Ocasio-Cortez, and Castro hold reservations on the way President Trump has treated Hispanics in the past, and could not reconcile with Unaue endearment comments to the president, being Hispanic himself.

Walmart, Chick-fil-A, AT&T, Bank of America, CVS, Planet Fitness, Hobby Lobby, Nathan’s Famous, Marvel Entertainment, New Balance, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Joe’s Crab Shack, Uline, and Shell Oil among many others have one thing in common:  all these businesses support and have donated thousands of dollars to the Republican party;  as well as to this Nation’s current president, Donald J. Trump. Are we all going to Boycott these businesses too? I’m sure many will not stop eating their Chick-n- Minis, nor cease to watch the Next Guardian of the Galaxy when it comes out in theaters near us, am I wrong?? You know I’m not!

It’s unbelievable to see the degree of immaturity and lack of common sense that stems from today’s generation. I Cringe at the ignorance all around. But I’ve always said,  sense ain’t so common for some people. Let me set the record straight here. Regardless of party, race, and religion, read this clearly: AMERICANS HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH & FREE WILL to speak their thoughts and act upon what they believe in, whether right, wrong, good, bad or indifferent! The key here to do it responsibly.

We The Leaders

As believers, professionals, and leaders in our community, our duty is not to backlash or point fingers at people,  but to reel them in with love and clear education.

Bob Unanue, president of the Goya company, has the right to speak what he feels.  He is in his rights to support who he wants to support. Democratic politicians, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Julian Castro,  have the right to express their sentiment behind supporting a Boycott against the Goya Hispanic Food Giant. It’s important to  research why each party stand for what they are supporting; we need to research, read, learn and  then speak our mind.

At end, the principal stands in educating our society in love, sound Word, and with sources as evidence.  Doing this, will allow us to arrive to a decision based on the  findings of our research and free from political shenanigans!

Common Sense, Anyone?

Its not just throwing nonsense out on  social media making ourselves look foolish, childish, and lacking sense! We must be better than that.  There was a reason why the Lord himself stated, “My people perish due to lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).  William James, an American philosopher and psychologist, Referring to society as a whole once said, “Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.”  I have  convinced myself a time or two that people’s lack of common sense is due to their need to be humorous. And I leave it as that.

Wisdom, among all things lets seek wisdom.  However, to do this we must be willing to read to learn.   Setting aside our  pride, and learning to bridle the tongue will allow us to see the other party’s side.  When we are exposed to the views of both sides, we have a better vision of what each stands for.

Prophet or Not, You Still Will be Damned.

Regardless of what these companies believe in, it doesn’t minimize the good they have done for people and our society. Although, let me make one thing clear:  we are not saved on actions alone. One comment or our way of thinking should never be the green light to downplay nor strike down all the good that has been done. Eleanor Roosevelt could not have said it better when she said, “Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”

Truth is you will never be everyone’s cup of coffee, nor a prophet in your land.   Seek to do right to your fellow man and honor God alone and all things shall fall in their respective places.   We must read, research, and learn, and we shall be given the key of wisdom to  enlighten our mind to see clearly what stands before us! Some things are just right –there! We would be  fools to not see it. Only a blind man can miss seeing this truth and even with this disability he still has ears to hear.
